Giving Praise for a Clean Water Project in Malawi
Families in Malawi face serious challenges from limited access to clean water, poor sanitation, and ongoing food insecurity, worsened by drought. Chiimba Church of the Nazarene is addressing these needs through a holistic project that provides clean water, community hygiene, and agriculture education.
A newly constructed borehole well is having an immediate impact. The church established a water point committee to monitor the well and repair it when needed. Hundreds of households in this community can now access clean, safe drinking water.
“Women suffered the most with absence of a borehole as they had to travel extensive distances to obtain water from a neighboring village,” said a village leader. “Sometimes they would collect water from other sources which were contaminated and this led to illnesses. Our village now has clean water available, which has reduced our time burdens and helped us stay healthy.”
By training young people as WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) educators, the project’s impact extends beyond the well drilled on their campus. Through their efforts, individuals and families are learning safe water-handling methods, proper handwashing skills, and disease-prevention practices. Thanks to the encouraging guidance these educators provide, 75 home latrines have been constructed thus far.
“This training has enabled me to understand and address local issues, communicate hygiene messages clearly, and engage communities in developing sustainable and inclusive WASH solutions,” said Efelo, a young woman equipped as a WASH educator. “As a member of the Church of Nazarene, the project has helped me to help people in my community holistically.”
God, we praise you for the gift of the well installed at the Chiimba church and the young adults who are serving and uplifting their communities. With each pail or cup of water, may those who drink this clean water be drawn to you, the source of true, Living Water. Continue to improve the health of this community through the ministry of this congregation. Lord, hear our prayers.
Responding after Typhoon Kalmaegi in Vietnam
On November 6, 2025, Typhoon Kalmaegi struck central Vietnam with powerful winds and torrential rains. The storm brought heavy rainfall, flooding, and strong winds that damaged homes and infrastructure and resulted in several fatalities in the central provinces.
The Church of the Nazarene in Vietnam responded quickly with a flood relief project that provided targeted support to communities affected by the typhoon’s impacts. Volunteers successfully delivered rice, noodles, canned goods, and clean water to seven churches, directly benefitting around 120 people from church congregations and their communities.
“This response not only provides material help but also strengthens the witness of the church as a source of care, love, and encouragement in times of crisis,” explained one church leader.
Lord, we pray for those who are still suffering in Vietnam after this Typhoon. We give praise for the immediate aid that provided essential support in the direct aftermath of the storm. Move in our own faith communities—inspire us to also quickly offer help anytime we encounter people in need. May we serve with compassion as an outflow of the compassion you have shown to us. Lord, hear our prayers.
Comprehensive Compassionate Care in Jordan
Gardens Church of the Nazarene in Jordan continues to host a thriving compassion center where young adults from the church volunteer to serve individuals and families in need. Through English classes, job-skills training, children’s programs, and gym activities—alongside sewing classes, barber services, nail service classes for women, and a multi-level discipleship course—the center is helping participants build confidence, develop practical skills, and experience greater emotional and spiritual stability.
In addition to vocational courses, the center provides food packages, blankets, and hygiene kits to meet immediate needs. While the ministry initially focused on caring for Iraqi and Syrian refugees, it now serves people from a growing range of nationalities, reflecting both the center's expanding reach and the trust being built within the community. Church members and staff regularly visit participating families, strengthening relationships and reinforcing a strong sense of care and belonging.
“People who participate in the center's activities often come to the church and bring with them friends and family members from their social network,” shared a project leader, a sign of growing spiritual interest and seeking among participants.
Looking ahead, the center plans to continue its existing programs while introducing new learning opportunities, including additional English courses and youth-focused projects. This year, participants will advance to new levels in their classes, and the ministry will continue nurturing the sense of family that participants consistently highlight as one of the center's most meaningful aspects.
Lord, we thank you for Gardens church and their ministry to their community through this compassionate ministry center. We give praise for each class and discipleship activity, each one an avenue for participants to grow, learn, and discover faith. Embolden and encourage the ministry volunteers as they serve. May even more people find supportive care at the center. Lord, hear our prayers.
